West Ardhu Location
All our woodfuel products are processed & stored in our purpose built shed in the Community owned West Ardhu Woodland. Delivery is by our Hino truck with crane ensuring your wood is delivered where you want it.
Logs for Stoves
The well-seasoned cut & split logs come in one cubic metre bulk bags direct to your door, perfect for your wood burning stove or open fire. You choose the length of log that best fits your needs.
Woodchip
Island Woodfuels are also suppliers of certified woodchip for biomass boilers - a great alternative to oil. We can advise you on where to find more info on boilers and installers. Our woodchip is also available for paths, farm uses, mulch etc.
Reasons Why You Should Burn Woodfuel
With energy prices likely to rise, the cost of woodfuels is much less likely to, because it can be locally sourced and processed, and therefore there is a significant reduction in the cost derived from delivery and transportation.
North West Mull Community Woodland Company was created in 2006 order to manage the woodland of Langamull and West Ardhu. A ten year programme of replanting will ensure a sustainable crop is available
Through its life-cycle the tree will absorb a significant amount of carbon dioxide, and when the wood is burned the absorbed carbon is released back into the atmosphere. This amount of absorbed CO2 during the lifetime of the tree is balanced by the overall amount of CO2 released when the wood is burned. Therefore, the carbon dioxide actually added to the atmosphere is effectively zero.
In the long-run, if more people burnt wood it would create a larger market for wood fuel, which would not only bring about competitive pricing but encourage the management of more woodland areas, promoting the many benefits of woodland management.
Burning wood fuel itself is a carbon neutral process. The wood only releases as much CO2 as it absorbed while growing. The reason why wood fuel isn’t completely carbon neutral is that there is some CO2 cost during processing and transport. The less distance the wood travels, the more environmentally friendly the process, so there is good reason to buy local!
